Columbia Wellness program spotlight: The CARE Project

Being a parent should be easier than this! Perhaps you can’t take your daughter shopping because she throws a tantrum every time? Or maybe you have a son that makes bedtime a nightmare, or maybe one of your children gets into fights at school? If your child has a particular behavior problem that is making family life more difficult than it should be then perhaps our CARE Project can help.

What is the CARE Project?

CARE: Coordinating Agencies Response to Early childhood needs.

We are a birth to age 8 coordinated continuum of care at Columbia Wellness (serving Cowlitz, Wahkiakum and South Lewis Counties) that nurtures the healthy development and wellness of all children through the prevention, early identification and treatment of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders using evidence based practices.

Here are some of the ways we can help:

  • We train and support early care, school, and primary care providers in using tools for social and emotional development.

  • We help with positive parent interactions, increase knowledge of age appropriate expectations, and decrease undesirable behaviors.

  • We provide monthly parenting classes based on social, behavioral/emotional issues.

  • We offer home visiting to enhance parent group learning through one-on-one sessions with families.

  • We use school therapists to collaborate with elementary schools to provide behavioral and mental health services for children ages 5-8 years old and transition from Pre-K to Kindergarten.

Right now we are taking referrals for Triple P - Positive Parenting Program (one-on-one parent consultation) and for Incredible Years Babies (0-1) and Incredible Years Parenting Group for ages (2-8). As well as individual therapy for kids 8 and younger and for Parent -Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).
